Sunboldt Grown - Case Study
Phenohunting and an accelerated breeding program!
We’ve been honored to be partnering with Sunboldt Grown to bring sunlighting from The Sun On-Demand™ to accelerate her breeding program, to preserve genetics over winter, and to harden clones for transplant outdoors. With a spirit as giant as the redwoods under which she farms, owner Sunshine Johnson is leading the charge for organically grown, dry farmed, small batch, estate grown cannabis.
The Sun On-Demand™ allowed Sunshine to pheno-hunt for the hardiest and most flavorful plants in her garden. These plants express their full genetic potential, just like they would outdoors. Pheno-hunting indoors with The Sun On-Demand™ allowed Sunshine to accelerate her breeding program while staying true to her sun-grown roots.
The Sun On-Demand™ gave Sunshine the flexibility to preserve genetics over winter. By springtime, her mother plants and cuttings were strong and ready to transition directly out into the field.
20 young plants were placed in this room to flower under one The Sun On-Demand™ fixture.
These plants were vegged outdoors and did not show any signs of stress or slowdown when transplanted and moved indoors.
"I didn’t expect my growth to be so healthy and happy! What would take two weeks normally, I saw in a week."
This photo of nearly-finished Molokai Frost under The Sun On-Demand™ shows the bud structure stacking from the top of the plant all the way to the bottom of the plant. Very little “lollipopping” is done on these plants, resulting in less labor time and more oil. (TIP: be sure to get air flow in the bottom half of the canopy.)
"“The light acts like the sun in May. May is a power month for growth. It’s when plants put on the most growth of the season. It’s the month of May when everything is cranking and growing. The light is most similar to that.”
